The Pill Edition Of Photoshop
I recently purchased the Adobe Photoshop CS3, mainly because of the huge speed improvement on Macs with Intel processors. After fiddling with it for a while I decided to find out which version of Photoshop I am actually using. CS3 sounds nice, yet it creates a lot of confusion when one thinks in terms of version numbers. Somehow I managed to press ⌘ while clicking on ‘About Photoshop’ and was quite surprised that Photoshop claimed to be a red pill instead.
I am sure that quite a few of the more hardcore photoshop users already knew about this, yet it is always quite interesting if one unexpectedly finds an Easter egg in an application. I did a little research on the red pill and it seems that every version of photoshop seems to have its own codename (and flash-screen).
What I am interested in is whether the name ‘Red Pill’ and all the other pseudonyms actually have a meaning or whether they are just a reoccurring programmers joke.

It’s probably a reference to the Matrix
