A Work in Progress: DamEager Promotions
I was recently faced with the challenge to create a logo and website for DamEagerPromotions, a company that arranges everything that a band could ever desire for a successful ‘gig’.
The name DamEagerPromotions is in itself quite juicy and I am still thinking hard to create something worthy of it: The ‘Dam’ refers both to Amster‘dam’ and to the actual Dam Square in the same city. This reflects the knowledge of the local scene.
The ‘Eager’ is entitled to be read both declaratively as well as referring back to the company’s initiator, Igor, showing a trace of personality to a potential customer.
One of my first ideas picked up on the ‘eagerness’ that was part of the name. Eager enough to take flight, to lift off. Unfortunately, when I started sketching this idea, the logo ended up resembling that of Hell’s Angels, a resemblance that most people would try to deny.
The first failed attempt. I substituted ‘Big Winged Turbine’ after I recognised that the logo was completely unfitting for DamEagerPromotions.
Even though I kept the font of the logo (Gill Sans Bold - All capitalised) I started again from scratch. At this point I remembered the idiom ‘Eager Beaver’ and subsequently sketched beavers for half a day. Although I recognised that my drawing skills were apparently getting worse, an idea was born.
The beaver also functions as a nice wordplay bridge. It is not only an eager beaver, but also an eager beaver who builds a dam.
Additionally, I decided to use three crosses in the logo, which is the mark of Amsterdam
The results of my efforts can be seen below:
Beaverrified : The DamEagerPromotions Logo
I decided to keep the logo quite simple, yet bold, to enable DamEagerPromotions to create a stamp that will be used to identify visitors who already paid during a ‘gig’. Instead of a boring ribbon around your arm, you get a beaver on it. Some people might disagree when they try to scrub it off, but you cannot deny that it is effective marketing.
For the stamp version the logo has an additional two lines surrounding it.
Until the website for DamEaegerPromotions is created, the logo is still in a state of flux, so I would like to ask you for some feedback…
